After these tragic events, I promised myself that I would devote my life to finding a cure for varicose veins.

Dr. Harrington: If varicose veins, especially in the legs, are not treated in time, they can lead to serious complications.

Blood vessels nourish tissues, and this function is significantly impaired in areas where varicose veins have formed. As a result, ulcers can appear on the skin, and if left untreated, they can worsen and become infected.

If certain types of bacteria, such as streptococcus or those found in pus, enter the skin infection caused by varicose veins, it becomes a dangerous situation because these bacteria are resistant to many antibiotics.

The bandages used in treating varicose veins are even more dangerous because they can lead to sepsis, an extremely serious condition.

The most dangerous consequence of varicose veins in the legs is prolonged blood stasis, which can easily lead to the formation of a blood clot.

If this is detected late and not treated properly, the clot can detach, enter the bloodstream, reach the heart, and then travel to other organs. When it reaches a narrowed blood vessel, such as a coronary artery, it can easily block it (in the brain’s blood vessels, this can cause a stroke, and if it reaches the pulmonary artery, it can cause death within minutes if not diagnosed and treated in time).

Journalist: There are many medications to treat varicose veins, aren’t there?

Dr. Harrington: Yes, there are many such medications, but they all work according to the same general principles I mentioned earlier. Most are ineffective and have many side effects. These medications usually do more harm than good.

Varicose veins cannot be cured with expensive medications. That’s a fact. If you look at what’s sold in pharmacies and listen to independent experts, you’ll see that most medications are simply a way to profit from patients.
